File extension pst information

File extension PST belongs to the category called Data Files. It is a Personal Information Store file that contains information used by Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Exchange programs. Included in the extension file are email folders, addresses and contacts among other data. The file extension has a capacity of 2GB. Consequently, it causes Microsoft Outlook to slow down when it is close to the limit. It is associated with Personal Folder Files and contains everything that Outlook 97, Outlook 2K or Outlook XP builds up. In other words, the Personal Folder file is the place where all data in Outlook is stored.
The common function of file extension PST is the management of Personal folders. The personal folders are the reference point for Microsoft applications to obtain accurate information. The file extension is connected to email setup under POP3 settings. Information is connected to the provider. Email messages are downloaded from the server and stored in a host computer through the Outlook default file. The function of PST files in this process is to organize and provide backup for the email data. PST files are however not secure and a majority of computer viruses and worms can infiltrate into the installed security software. They can then scan PST files, collect information and hence steal into confidential data.
